Advocacy and Public Policy
The Los Angeles Union Cooperative Initiative has been and continues to be actively involved with government, trade union and worker cooperative organizations in advocating for development and growth of worker cooperatives in North America and the world, especially those co-ops that are also signatory to union contracts. This includes developing progressive public policies and legislative advocacy at all levels of government in order to incentivize and grow union worker cooperatives.
Among our cooperating organizations are:
- US Federation of Worker Cooperatives, Union Co-op Council
- Sustainable Economy Law Center
- United Steelworkers Union, Local 675
- California Center for Cooperative Development
LUCI supports city and county legislation that: preferences worker cooperatives for government subcontracting work; through government employment programs refers workers who are job-hunting to consider joining or starting a worker cooperative; funds technical assistance for new and growing worker cooperatives; etc.
